In order to select and assign students into senior school career routes, the Ministry of Education is working to reevaluate the classification of public secondary schools.
This can be found in the Ministry’s draft Sessional Paper No. X of 2024, which is open for public comment. In addition to fostering fair access to education, it looks at student operating costs in order to develop and offer minimal essential packages in schools for the proper implementation of Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
The Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER) is cited in the Sessional Paper, which offers a framework for policy changes aimed at reforming training, education, and research for sustainable development.
“Kenya has consistently implemented educational reforms to bring the educational system into line with national interests and values, regional objectives, and worldwide trends.
The Ministry notes that the September 2022-established Presidential Working Party on Education Reform provided suggestions intended to transform the sector throughout the three levels of education: Basic Education, TVET, and University.
The government claims that plans are in motion to improve career advising, counseling, and mentorship programs at all educational and training levels as part of enhancing curriculum implementation. Additionally, plans call for utilizing technology to deliver high-quality education.
In addition to developing and implementing a policy framework on STEM education, training, and research, the government also plans to review and implement an environmental and climate change framework at all educational levels.
Finally, it will create and implement policy frameworks on social media, life skills education, Indigenous knowledge, and entrepreneurship.
