In the next teacher replacement, primary school teachers who have upgraded from Primary Teacher Education (PTE) to Diploma Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) would have an extra edge.

TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia made this revelation on Wednesday of this week at a stakeholders engagement conference held at KICD headquarters in Nairobi.

When a journalist from TV47 asked Macharia why the Commission had abandoned P1 teachers who had upgraded to DPTE as required by TSC, Macharia was answering the issue.

In a rejoinder, Macharia asserted that the Commission has not abandoned the instructors, but rather has given them five more points than those who possess P1 certificates in the most recent replacement positions that were posted.

This week, TSC announced that primary, junior, and secondary school teachers can apply for 8,707 teaching positions on permanent and pensionable (pnp) terms beginning on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.

TSC announced 5,862 primary school positions, 21 junior school positions, and 2,824 secondary school positions in an advertisement issued on Tuesday of this week.

However TSC said the online application portal will be activated from 31st December for fourteen days to allow qualified teachers to apply.

In the advert TSC listed three key requirements for those seeking for the slots. One is required to be a Kenyan citizen.

He or she should hold at least a P1 certificate in the case of primary schools or a diploma in education in the case of junior and secondary schools. One must also be a registered teacher with TSC.

The application for the replacement vacancies will be strictly done through the TSC online platform from 31st December to 13th January.

The Commission said the vacancies arose after teachers exited the teaching service through natural attrition which include retirement, resignation and death.

A significant number of PTE teachers went back to college to upgrade to DPTE which is inline with the new curriculum.

The Commission has indicated its plans to scrap the PTE certificate and replace with DPTE as the minimum requirement for employing primary school teachers.

Below is the advert that was released by TSC this week that seeks to replace 8,707 teachers.
