TSC deploys more than 4k head teachers following interviews for promotions.

Following promotion interviews, TSC transfers more than 4,000 headteachers. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) reconfigured the headteachers of almost 4,000 primary schools prior to the commencement of classes anew in January.

The Commission has sent transfer letters to the head teachers, instructing them to report immediately through the Sub-county Directors to their new station.

The changes were implemented shortly after the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam results were revealed.

The revisions occurred less than a week after TSC concluded the teacher promotion interviews for primary school teachers.

After promotion interviews, TSC transfers more than 4,000 head teachers.

Starting on December 4th, 2023, the interviews ended last week on December 15th.

A significant number of school heads are retiring from their positions, which presents a challenge for the Commission. By December of this year, about 2000 school heads will have retired.

In September of this year, the Commission posted job openings for 36,505 primary and secondary school promotions.

Interviews were held with primary school teachers belonging to job groups C1 through C4.

C1 instructors competed in the interviews for 10,819 Senior Teacher II (C2) positions in ordinary schools and 700 positions in special schools.

The Commission had listed the following items to be presented during the December promotion interviews.

1) Original National ID Card

2) Original Academic and Professional Certificates

3) Letter of appointment to the current Grade

4) Letter of appointment to the current post (where applicable)

5) Analysed individual subject results in KCPE/KCSE Examinations for the last three years, certified by TSC County Directors/Sub County Directors.

6) Performance Appraisal Reports for 2020, 2021, and 2022

7) Any other relevant testimonials supporting your performance

In order to compete for the 36,505 positions, around 100,000 primary and secondary school teachers were shortlisted and sent interview invitations.

Teachers in secondary schools will be interviewed the following year. It will take place from January 3–16, 2024.

In conventional primary schools, C2 instructors are competing for 3,040 Senior Teacher I (C3) slots, while 346 slots are available for special schools.

In order to fill the 1,930 Deputy Headteacher II (C4) positions in ordinary primary schools, C3 teachers are working extremely hard.

In order to fill 1,049 Headteacher positions in C5 for conventional primary schools and 30 for special schools, Deputy Headteachers in C4 are battling it out.

With a record number of teachers being shortlisted for promotion by TSC, this interview was unique.

Additionally, it was the first time sub-counties had conducted interviews of this nature for school directors looking to advance.
