TSC Gives Clarification on Reports of Higher University Entrance Grades for Teacher Degree Courses.
The instructors Service Commission (TSC), which oversees the teaching profession in Kenya and hires government instructors, has responded to a social media story that suggests it has improved the entrance scores for applicants to all of the nation’s Bachelor of Education programs.
TSC has labeled the article as fake news, claiming that the academic requirements for those wishing to pursue a degree in education will be revised, beginning with the cohort that took the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam in 2024.
As suggested by the online report, which attracted a lot of attention after the 2024 KCSE results were released last week, the commission led by Dr. Nancy Macharia said in an official statement on Monday that it had not examined the educational and training requirements for those entering the teaching profession.
“Beware of fake news! The requirements for persons wishing to join the teaching service are outlined on our official website. Stay informed,” TSC warned.
The fake report had claimed that the commission had raised the entry grades from an average of C+ in all core subjects to a mean grade of B- in Mathematics and English, along with C+ in the subjects one intends to teach in secondary schools.
TSC has reassured the public that the qualification criteria remain unchanged: a minimum overall mean grade of C+ and a C+ or higher in the relevant teaching subjects.
