TSC to promote 28,288 teachers as government funding rises in 2025.

As part of its ongoing efforts to improve professional development in the education sector, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced intentions to promote an additional 28,288 teachers across a range of classes this year.

With this action, 59,792 teachers have been promoted overall during the last two years.

TSC Chairperson Jamleck Muturi, who spoke at the announcement of the 2024 KCSE exam results, emphasized that the promotions are a reflection of the commission’s continued dedication to recognizing and rewarding educators’ efforts.

“We encourage all eligible teachers to take advantage of this opportunity to advance their careers,” Muturi stated.

Increased government financing is credited with enabling the TSC to prioritize teacher professional development and capacity building in its promotion goals.

Muturi reports that 60,000 junior high school teachers are also receiving training to conform to the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), while 229,292 primary school teachers are also undergoing retooling.

“These programmes ensure that our teachers are equipped with skills to effectively implement CBC and meet the diverse needs of our learners,” Muturi stated.

The declaration comes after a year of advancements in the field of education. According to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), 965,512 candidates registered for the 2024 KCSE exams, which is the biggest number since 2020 and represents a 7.19 percent increase.
